Mentor Program

The Leadership Minor Mentor Program connects graduating students with Leadership Minor alumni to smooth the transition between student to professional.  This program allows mentees to question the mentor about past experiences and how decisions were made in those contexts.  The student also has the opportunity to express ideas and concerns, as well as understand how the mentor establishes and realizes their goals.  

Specific emphasis is placed on:

  • Understanding career opportunities
  • Understanding the basic attributes common to any profession
  • Reflect on the student’s skills and passions and how they connect to work
  • Making direct connections and translating collegiate experience and Leadership Minor skills to their future careers

Not only does this program offer mentees a developmental experience, it also offers alumni mentors a variety of skill building opportunities.  Mentors receive 1-on-1 and group training from mentorship experts as well as resources and the opportunity to enhance the following professional skills:

  1. Mentoring Skills
  2. Building and maintaining relationships
  3. Coaching
  4. Communicating
  5. Facilitating
  6. Goal Setting
  7. Managing conflict
  8. Problem solving
  9. Providing and receiving feedback
